Local production of bread wheat: minresi on the path to a public-private multi-sectoral partnership with olam agri cameroon

With a view to implementing the Import-Substitution policy prescribed by the Head of State His Excellency Paul BIYA, MINRESI intends to establish a public-private multi-sector partnership with the multinational OLAM Agri engaged in local wheat production bread making

On Thursday April 20, 2023, the Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Dr Madeleine TCHUINTE, received in audience Mr Veeresh MALLIKARJUN HIREMATH, the General Director of OLAM Agri Cameroon who was assisted by his Director of Public Relations, Mr BILO’ O Alain Didier. MINRESI was accompanied for the occasion by the Director General of IRAD, Dr Noé WOIN; Technical Advisor No. 2, Professor Eddy NGONKEU; the Chief DCST, Dr AMINA DJOULDE Christelle and the DAG, Dr MANSOUROU Mohammadou. The two parties discussed the development of the local bread wheat production chain. The businessman of Indian origin expressed his company’s desire to contribute to the implementation of the Import-Substitution Policy prescribed by the Head of State His Excellency Paul BIYA. In this sense, it is committed to producing wheat transformed into flour, intended for the manufacture of bread and pastries.

The multinational OLAM Agri, which has been operating in Cameroon since 1995, specializes in the agro-industry and food sectors. MINRESI reassured the businessman about the quality of IRAD seeds which were also analyzed and approved in the OLAM Agri laboratories. These seeds will be made available to groups of farmers with whom the multinational works on the ground. Through this collaboration, MINRESI intends to establish a multi-sectoral public-private partnership which constitutes one of its strategies for promoting “made in Cameroon” and implementing the Import-Substitution policy desired by the Head of State.
