Cameroon academy of science week (cas): a workshop before the launch

The MINRESI Conference Room hosted, from 10 a.m. on Monday July 18, 2022, a workshop organized on “The role of scientific expertise in the fight against COVID-19”, as a prelude to the official launch ceremony of the Week of the Cameroon Academy of Sciences (CAS) which will take place until July 20 under the theme: “Implementation of the National Development Strategy 2020-2030: Capitalizing on National Scientific Research”. Professor Beban Sammy Chumbow, from the outset, welcomed the presence of the representative of the Prime Minister in the person of Professor Touna Mama. He subsequently welcomed the influence of the Academy at the international level. This influence is reflected in the support it receives from the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) as well as the InterAcademy Panel (IAP) which are the main sponsors of this event. Professor Vincent Titanji presented the objectives of the research project he coordinates on the theme: “Scientific evidence-based response to pandemic in resource limited countries with particular reference to COVID-19: The case of Cameroon”. The audience was thus able to learn that the main objective of this research work is “To find out how the input of science and scientific knowledge has contributed to combat Covid-19”. To do this, the study adopts a pragmatic approach based on exchanges within the framework of a forum. Hence the holding of this workshop, the results of which will be recorded in the form of proposals in a document which will be submitted to the government as indicated by the Executive Secretary of the CAS, Dr David Mbah.
After this epistemological and methodological update, the representative of the Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Dr. Gabriel Agbor, launched the workshop. His speech for the occasion focused on the Government’s contribution to the development of science. Emphasis was placed on the involvement of MINRESI in the management of the health crisis relating to COVID-19 through the carrying out of tests and the production of materials such as disinfectant bags and hydroalcoholic gels necessary for implementation. barrier measures. This series of interventions was followed by a family photo and a coffee break which brought an end to the protocol phase.
